I'm looking for software that's similar (but better than) Microsoft paint....any ideas?

I want to get a program that's similar to Microsoft paint but has more realistic features with it to make pictures like this:

GIMP is basically as powerful as photoshop but free, and multi-compatable for OS's.

I use GIMP alot, as I mostly use Linux..





There is also Paint.NET.. although both are a tad hard to get used to. Read the tutorials.
