I'm looking for software similar to ms paint but better. I remember a while ago one of my relatives had a really old computer with image editing better than paint because airbrush had a fade effect rather than the spackling effect paint has. It would be nice if it's free to. Any suggestions? Is there software available better than ms paint?
I like gimp. It's an opensource project with functionality simlar to adobe's photoshop. Link is below. Also check out, download, and install the help files. Is there software available better than ms paint?
Faststone Image Viewer, IrfanView and Xnview are a bit more like MS Paint, but you can do more with them. Not nearly as much as with PSP or the Gimp, but they are easier to use (and free).

Go to www.snapfiles.com and check the freeware category and then look under image editors. There are quite a few free programs that are pretty good, depending on what you want to. Probably Gimp and Pixia can do the most but most of the others are pretty good too. I like PhotoFiltre.
I'm a graphic, so I use all programs below:
- Photoshop (not free),
- Gimp Shop (free with Photoshop similarities),
- Paint dot NET (free),
- Paint Shop Pro,
- Irfan View (free).
If it was old it was probably paint shop pro. There was always some free version of that back in the day. I don't know how free it is now.
When we talk about free photo program we usually talk about gimp
The GIMP and Paint.NET are free alternatives. Adobe Photoshop and Corel Painter are commercial alternatives. The idiom you get what you pay for holds true in this case.
Adobe Photoshop:

Adobe Photoshop Extended:

The Extended version has more features.
Try GIMP
the best I've ever used is Photoshop, Paintshop pro is good too.
