What's a good free vector drawing and painting software similar to Adobe Illustrator?

I love using Adobe Illustrator, but I don't have the money to buy it because it's expensive. Is there something out there that's similar and free to download from the web?What's a good free vector drawing and painting software similar to Adobe Illustrator?

CorelDraw X3 Graphics is a powerful vector and raster drawing package. Corel made a name in graphics software!





The education edition is only $99. Several well-known online stores sell it. You are using it for educational use, aren't you :)
